To ensure the transition from home to ABC is a gradual and settled process for children, parents/whānau and teachers.
Children must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours to promote continuity of routines and the forming of secure attachments.
New children and their families/whānau will have a familiar teacher as contact for drop off, daily communications etc.
The child’s routine will be discussed and documented at enrolment.
Children and their parent/s must attend enrolment visits before the child may start at the centre:
During the preliminary visits parent/s and child stay together and familiarise themselves with the teaching team and the centre.
After several visits parent/s and child stay in centre, but parent/s move away from child, letting the child explore the environment and establish relationships with staff. If the child appears settled parent/s may leave for a maximum of 30 minutes.
During the final stages of the transitioning process parent/s may leave their child for short periods of time.
Parent/whānau may be called if child is inconsolable as needs of the child are paramount.
The centre allows for three hours of free care during the final stages of transition visits.
Parents/whānau are encouraged to phone the centre to check on their child at any time.
Parents/whānau are encouraged to say goodbye to their children. We do not encourage ‘sneaking out’ as it does not promote children to develop a sense of trust in their new environment.
